It keeps going & going & going......

I know you're thinking ENERGIZER BUNNY but alas, its my huge spring clean up! Actually its my life. I've gotten so much done in the last week and I really think it's weird that something as simple as writing about my tasks is keeping me motivated - but it is.. so I will not complain!
I don't have pictures for this post but I want to report on my progress so far. Saturday I went on a girls camp prehike up Lone Mountain. It was fun and hot and actually more strenuous than I thought it would be. When we got to the top of the mountain the wind was blowing. It felt good but I was excited to turn around, drive home and start cleaning out my garage (because I'm from Ireland you have to pronounce "garage" with a long "a".... "GAAArage" to get the full effect of that last sentence!
By the time I picked up the kids and got home it was already noon. Not the best time to start cleaning the garage I know, but I went ahead anyway. We're having a community garage sale next Saturday so that is also motivating me to clear out and get rid of things. Nothing better than making a few bucks off your junk!
I've been pulling the kids rooms apart bit by bit this last week so they are basically down to just their beds. I've decided on paint for the girls room.
BLACK, HOT PINK & WHITE (polka dot accents).

I'm super excited to pull it all together.
The boys room feels harder. I did find awesome BOOK OF MORMON HERO posters on a cool website so I think we'll do something very BOYISH for them. Also scored with two dragon quilts for $15 a piece at trusty 'ole walmart.
It's so weird how we change over time. Years ago I would not have been able to take the pace I'm taking with this project. I would've wanted to get everything bought, done and in place in a week. I'm so glad that I realize that I am not superwoman and that "these things take time". It's actually more enjoyable doing it line upon line. It's also pretty impossible with the crazy schedule we keep and my church calling.
So that's about it. I've bought and sold some stuff on craigslist. Got some great deals and promised Sam that I will only meet people at gas stations from now on *smile*
This week I'm hoping to finish prepping for the yard sale and maybe get the girls paint started in their bedroom. Wish me luck!

Oh just remembered I do have a photo.....Baili and I made homemade hamburgers for dinner tonight. Reminds me of days as a kid. I remember my Mam making those. Hope they taste yummy!!

Pumped

I am staying motivated! I have torn apart the kids rooms and thrown away soooo much stuff. They are getting on board and I think they're getting excited about whats to come.....little do they know all that junk is not going back into their rooms. I usually like to bust out projects fast but this one is going to drag for a while. I've told Sam to hold on, because it's going to be a few weeks before it seems like I've accomplished anything! I'm still excited and little by little getting stuff done. I feel like the blog is keeping me motivated as I do projects and think about writing about them. I've also failed to mention that "project order" is part of my personal progress (a goal setting program my young women at church work on). I'm doing this and keeping track of my progress toward a 10 hour project. I should be almost there at the rate I'm going - feels like Ive been working on the clothes for the last week?

The Switcheroo

Ok so rough time getting off the ground with project order.....more like project overwhelmed, annoyed, unmotivated and wanna light my house on fire! Not really but the first few days I wondered if loading the dishwasher would suffice for a posting? Ummm, no! Then I kinda kicked in gear. As a kid I remember the one big job (which was actually 2 because we did it twice a year) that was overwhelming was switching the clothes from summer to winter and vica versa.
I now dub it "the switcheroo" and it will be known as this from henceforth!
Ugh.....so much work!
My mam used to have the clothes from the opposite season in a big box on the top of our built in "wardrobes" as they're known in Ireland. It was kinda fun for us kids to try on the "new" clothes and see if they fit or if they'd be passed to the next sibling. It ALWAYS took a full day to do the switcheroo but at the end we had weeded out the junk and had a full new wardrobe of clothes.

So this was my starting point because my kids clothes, as well as mine I guess, combined with my laundry issue, is just a mess!! A total mess...... I feel like that is the starting point to the rest of the house going to pot. When the clothes are everywhere and there is no order to them, it's the beginning of the end.

Contrary to what the experts say.....TOTES ARE MY BEST FRIENDS! Like seriously I don't know where I would store everything if I didn't invest in the $4 buckets (color coordinated to girls or boys) at walmart! So I hauled them in from the garage, set up my 6 ft tables and began the switcheroo. Its been three days and I just barely got the tables cleared....phew! It is done! Kids now have closets full of summer clothes, winter clothes that will fit next year are stored away in trusty totes and old clothes are prepped for our community garage sale on May 1st!

Now the only problem is the weather is forecast to drop in temperature and get cold on Tuesday....Murphy's Law!!!

'aint no stepford wife....

Welcome to my new blog. I'm super excited about this new venture. For a long time now Ive been struggling to get my "house in order". It just seems like an impossible task and it really wears on me. I notice that my mood and how orderly my house is, very much coincide and I'm a much better Mom when I feel like Ive done my part as a homemaker!

We've all heard the phrase "cleanliness is next to Godliness" I believe it to be true! I think it's because when our homes are picked up, clean and organized, we let ourselves relax and thus feel the spirit working in our lives. Now, let me clarify....I 'aint no stepford wife.....haha....my house will never be in tip top shape, nor will it be clean and "tour ready" each and everyday, but I'm hoping that this challenge will help me get my house in order as well as share some tips and secrets I learn along the way.

I think it's important that everyone has a passion. Mine seem to have bounced throughout the years but one common tread is that I love to be creative. I went through a phase of decorating (usually when we moved homes) and now my passion is dancing. I have found an outlet in writing my family blog and believe writing our thoughts is therapeutic. I'm excited to share the ups and downs as I try to undertake this project to put my house in order.
